New Zealand Hotels

New Zealand inner city hotels are pretty much the same as inner city hotels around the globe regarding facilities and price. What is of more interest to adventure riders are the small town hotels and historic hotels that date back to the early goldmining and coalmining days.

Many of these historic hotels are actively maintained to a high standard offering rustic authenticity mixed with modern conveniences and comforts. The price for staying at a hotel like this ranges from $120 to $200 per person per night. A good example of this is Danseys Pass Coach Inn which costs $140 per person per night.

Some small town hotels throughout New Zealand offer more basic accommodation at lower rates. The cost for a very basic hotel room with just a bed and no amenities is normally around $40 to $70 per person. Self-contained rooms with shower and toilet are normally around $80 to $120 per person per night. A good example of this is the Historic Empire Hotel in Ross.

New Zealand Motels

New Zealand motels generally offer continuity of price throughout the country. The cost for a typical motel is between $120 and $160 per person per night. This will be slightly less in the off-peak season. Twin share rooms normally have a cost of about $20 for an extra person so a $130 per night room for two people will work out to be $75 each per night.

Most motel operators are very accommodating to adventure riders. Some motels will offer to put bikes under shelter, in a lockup, give you access to a hose or a drying room for your gear. The motel below is a typical mid-priced, tidy and comfortable motel on the West Coast of the South Island; Ross Motel.
